This is an example of an assignment for my students. The idea is to produce a cover illustration for a video game but approach it in more than one style. Along the way they practice iterating on layouts and come to understand how various approaches to style and rendering change the outcome of the final composition. These are factors that are important to consider when conveying the tone or vision of a project and the audience you're trying to target.
